Although the recognition of the related right of news publishers has sparked many debates, some of which were rehearsed elsewhere by this author, the implementation of this right recently recognised by European legislators has not run smoothly. Develop without harm, share value without generating a form of blackmail, free up the news while also guaranteeing its independence – these many contradictory demands in the drive for reform are such that there were bound to be problems associated with any answer provided. Was a reform actually necessary?
