This article is an extract from the study on the European experience of copyright and neighbouring rights protection written by Paul Florenson (former Deputy Head of Legal Affairs, French Ministry of Culture) in the collection of legal information documents that GESAC distributed in the Russian Federation as part of the European Commission’s TACIS Programme of cooperation in the field of intellectual property which ended on 31 december 2001. The extrct corresponds to the last chapter of the study, which outlines in turn the principles of copyright and neighbouring rights, recent developments concerning the protection of these rights and their implementation in the European Union.
